Recreation Program Manager Shorewood School District - Department of Recreation & Community Services
Job Description Join the Shorewood School District’s Recreation & Community Services Department as a Recreation Program Manager. This full-time leadership position offers the opportunity to design, implement, and manage inclusive recreation programs and community events that serve our entire community. Reporting to the Director of Recreation and Community Services, you will oversee operations, manage personnel, and foster connections within our diverse community, ensuring high-quality, impactful programming.
Key Responsibilities: Program Development and Management
- Assess community needs and interests to design innovative, inclusive recreation programs.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate a wide range of activities, including aquatics, youth and adult enrichment, family and special events, and volunteer coordination.
- Continuously improve existing programs through feedback and data-driven analysis to meet evolving community demands.
Leadership and Supervision
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff, seasonal employees, and volunteers, fostering a positive and team-oriented work environment.
- Develop and implement staff training programs, including orientations, certifications in CPR, First Aid, and aquatics safety.
- Ensure staff and volunteer alignment with departmental goals and community expectations.
Operational Oversight
- Coordinate the scheduling and use of facilities for programs, ensuring optimal utilization and accessibility.
- Manage administrative functions, including payroll, marketing, and program reporting.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices.
Community Engagement
- Serve as a liaison to community organizations, special interest groups, and committees, fostering strong relationships to expand recreational opportunities.
- Maintain positive public relations, promoting programs and services to the community.

Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Education, or a related field, or have comparable work experience in a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in managing comprehensive programs, events or activities, including leadership and supervisory roles.
- Strong organizational, programming, and communication skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet program demands.
Preferred:
- National Certification as a Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
- Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid, CPR/AED Instructor certifications.
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification and aquatics programming experience.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification.
Salary/Salary Range $59,000 - $69,000, commensurate with experience
