Recreation Program Manager City of Kaukauna
Job Description The Recreation Program Manager will manage the programs and facilities that provide comprehensive recreational services to residents and local communities. This position will operate and oversee our brand-new Aquatic Center, in addition to a number of other seasonal programs and events. The Recreation Manager will also utilize outreach and marketing skills to promote programs and offerings. Excellent planning and organizational skills are important in this role.
Additional routine responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan, organize, direct, oversee, and conduct recreation programs and services for all ages and interest levels.
- Assist with the development and evaluation of various fees and charges associated with recreational program offerings. Provide input on program and event budgets for the Director’s review.
- Manage and coordinate staffing needs for all programs and events through recruiting, selection scheduling and development.
- Manage supply and equipment inventories at facilities to ensure program needs are met.
- Develop and maintain effective community and public relations programs.
This position does not include park grounds and buildings maintenance responsibility; however, it does include grounds and building maintenance at the Aquatic Center. The Recreation Program Manager will work core hours during regular operation hours but will have flexibility in that core schedule to allow for scheduled time onsite during evening and weekend programs for leadership and oversight as part of the main responsibilities.
Qualifications The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Program Management or related field with two to three years of direct experience. A combination of experience and education may be considered in lieu of a degree. An enthusiastic professional who brings creativity, organization, and communication skills will be necessary for success. A valid driver's license is required for this position. Basic math skills are necessary for budgeting, balancing and reconciliation.

- Considerable knowledge of recreational programming, administration, and operations.
- Experience leading safe work and recreational program practices.
- Knowledge of personnel administration to select, lead, train and manage department personnel, .
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and municipal ordinances governing park and recreation programs and facilities. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of large and varied work groups.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective public relations and provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to internal employees and to the public.
- Previous experience with registration and reservation systems.
- Certified Aquatic Facility Operator or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
- Certified Lifeguard or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
- Certified Water Safety Instructor or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
- CPR CertifiedCertified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work flexible hours as necessary to accommodate programming and its direct on-site supervision, including some evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Mobility: must be able to stand, sit, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Vision: Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Hearing: Incumbents are required to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
- Ability to lift a minimum of twenty-five (25) pounds regularly and a minimum of forty (40) pounds occasionally.
- Occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.
Salary/Salary Range Starting salary range is $64,340-$75,184.
