Recreation Coordinator Village of Mount Horeb Recreation Department
Job Description The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for implementing, overseeing, instructing, and evaluating a variety of recreational programs and events along with overseeing our outdoor aquatic center. This position is also responsible for daily administrative and clerical duties. Excellent communication and organizational skills are a must in this position.
Examples of Essential Job Duties:
- Communicate professionally and effectively with program participants, the general public, and Village staff to ensure smooth operations of recreational and aquatic activities.
- Train and guide program instructors on departmental policies, program goals, and expectations to maintain high-quality programs and events.
- Answer incoming calls, respond to emails, and assist with social media accounts.
- Prepare and maintain various documentation such as program evaluations, performance reviews, schedules, and class descriptions to assess program effectiveness.
- Oversee seasonal aquatic center staff which includes creating schedules and implementing trainings as needed.
- Utilize basic computer programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel, to manage data and prepare reports.
- Recruit, coordinate, train, and oversee volunteers and part-time staff to ensure smooth program delivery.
- Handle payments from the public, prepare deposits, reconcile petty cash and receipts, and register program participants.
- Assist in development and implementation of activity guides and brochures and utilize marketing skills to promote programs and offerings.
- Manage supply and equipment inventories to ensure program needs are met.
- Create newsletters, flyers, email correspondences, and other department documents, by utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Google, and Canva.
- Address and resolve operational or work-related issues by listening, collaborating, and implementing effective solutions.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in recreation or a related field required.
- Two or more years of experience in recreation preferred.
- Lifeguard certification or aquatics background desired.
- CPR, 1st Aid, and AED certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
- Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed both indoors in an office setting and outdoors, in various weather conditions including the heat and cold.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, climb, kneel, balance, crouch and stoop.
- Occasionally required to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work flexible hours as necessary which includes nights and weekends.
Salary/Salary Range $23+ based on qualifications, plus benefits
