Job Description
Purpose: The Fitness Center Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, supervision, evaluation and operational aspects of the Community Fitness Center. The WAWM Community Fitness Center is a community based facility providing health and wellness opportunities to a diverse population.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate fitness center personnel. This includes the creation of a Community Fitness Center employee handbook in accordance with school district and department employee policies.
  • Create and annually review job descriptions for those working within the fitness center.
  • Direct and assist with the promotion and recruitment of fitness center memberships.
  • Manage fitness center membership levels.
  • Oversee fiscal management of the fitness center which includes creating a budget for revenue and operating expenses.
  • Develop annual goals and objectives related to membership and revenue.
  • Responsible for administrative functions of the fitness center including but not limited to; payroll, scheduling, reports, etc.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the operations of the fitness center.
  • Work collaboratively with department personnel including but not limited to; Director, Adult Fitness Manger, Facilities & Operations, Marketing Manager and Office Operations.
  • Inspect, oversee routine maintenance, direct repairs of equipment and center.
  • Conduct fitness center orientations, training, and develop fitness programs for members upon request.
  • Responsible for the delivery of high quality customer service and clear communication (Greet members, encourage and support members, provide accurate information in a timely manner, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively with School District Wellness Center staff.
  • Create and implement personal training and strength and conditioning programs and all aspects associated with (monitoring, supervising, establishing fees, etc.)
  • Ensure and maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness at all times.
  • Create, post and share fitness center operational schedule of hours.
  • Schedule CPR/AED & First Aid training for employees on a regular basis and maintain records of certifications.
  • Responsible for collaborating with with the Assistant Director ~ Facility and Operations on the following;
    • Cleanliness of the center and changing areas.
    • Tightening and lubricating of machines.
    • Conducting routine inspections and maintenance of machines.
    • Documentation and record keeping of related to cleaning, inspections and maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreation & Community Services

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Fitness and Health Management, Sports Medicine or a related field.
  • Supervisory experience in a fitness related environment.
  • Required certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid and ability to obtain instructor certification within a year of hire.
  • Preferred: Personal training certification from one or more of the following; NASM, NSCA, ACSM or ACE (or must be able to obtain certification within six months of hire).

Salary/Salary Range
$60,000 - $65,000 BOQ + comprehensive benefits
