Forester/Arborist Village of Greenville Parks, Recreation & Forestry
Job Description The Village of Greenville, a rapidly growing community located just west of Appleton, is seeking a self-motivated, community-centered, and driven individual to join our team as a Forester/Arborist. This full-time position is responsible for skilled and unskilled labor, essential to the maintenance and operations of the Village's street trees, parks, trails, public lands and urban forest. As the Forester/Arborist, you will have the exciting opportunity to oversee an already award-winning street tree program and join a dynamic team dedicated to public service.
Essential Responsibilities include:
- Prune, plan, and remove trees as required. Perform landscaping duties in parks and other Village green spaces.
- Maintain and update the Village GIS tree inventory by inputting new plantings, pruning dates, and tree health assessments.
- Prepare, execute, and oversee street tree planting RFP’s and contracts.
- Operate equipment such as aerial lifts, chain saws, pole saws, brush chippers, skid steers, UTV’s, sprayers, and other powered and non-powered equipment used in the industry.
- Help prepare, manage, and work within annual budget allotment.
- Provide exemplary service to the residents of Greenville by performing community outreach initiatives.
- Apply pesticides and fertilizers.
- Assist with equipment maintenance and repair.
- Assist with general park maintenance which includes cleaning, minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and concrete work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required Experience, Education and Training
- Associate’s degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, or a related field; bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, or a related field.
- Possess certification from the International Society of Arboriculture as a Certified Arborist or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license with Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
- Wisconsin Pesticide Certification Category 3.0 (Turf and Landscape) & 6.0 (ROW and Natural Areas) or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
Knowledge of:
- Practices and principles of Arboriculture/Urban Forestry including, but not limited to, tree identification, pruning and removal procedures.
- Methods, equipment and materials used in Arboriculture/Urban Forestry.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for tree work and working in traffic.
- Parks and recreation facility construction, maintenance, repair and operations.
- Proper application of fertilizers and pesticides.
- Horticulture/landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques.
Ability to:
- Operate all parks, forestry and public works (street) equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Work with limited supervision.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Follow safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with other employees, supervisors and the public.
- Maintain a high-quality of public relations with Village residents when carrying out Village projects.
- Maintain effective relationships with other employees and deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Effectively operate a computer, tablets PCs and Arc GIS Online Software.
- Work in adverse weather conditions.
Salary/Salary Range $63,485 - $70,092 starting depending on experience
