Recreation Supervisor/Intern

Job Description

The candidate will be exposed to youth and adult recreational and sports programming, marketing, recruitment, training and supervision of staff, facility supervision, scheduling and financial management. The candidate will also assist with the supervision and leadership of special events and communication of department activities. While a temporary/seasonal position, this candidate is expected to follow all employee policies and procedures of the City of Baraboo and is expected to be a positive representative of the Department.

Examples of programs offered include : Senior Fitness; Adult Exercise; Youth Zumba; Youth Gymnastics; Youth and Adult Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, and Baseball/Softball; various Youth and Adult Enrichment Classes; Youth Soccer; Sports Camps; Tot Lot; Open Gyms; Pickleball; Zoo Camps; Theater; etc.

The Baraboo Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department serves over 15,000 residents and provides a 50,000 square floor Civic Center with a gymnasium and fitness rooms; 18 parks including a dog park, ice arena, arboretum and Riverwalk trail system; a Zoo with over 50 animals; management of over 7,000 trees and urban forestry education programs; many recreation programs and and an aquatic center. The Department operates on a budget of just over $1.5 million with 12 FTE staff and over 150 seasonal employees and volunteers.

Positions and housing available year-round, 10-40 hours/week depending on the season. Work as few as 10 weeks or as many as 26. Internship credits available if needed.


Must be currently studying recreation/sports management studies or related field, or have recently completed a degree from accredited program, and possess strong communication and organizational skills.

Salary/Salary Range

$10/hour + housing available.
