Help Us Support the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program
The President's Budget proposes a 13% decrease of HUD's budget, including the complete elimination of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. As many of you already know, CDBG, which received $3 billion in funding this year, offers critical funding to communities to address serious infrastructure, economic development, housing and other community development needs, including park and recreation improvement projects.
Between 2005 - 2013, $864 million in CDBG funds directly supported park and recreation projects. If CDBG were eliminated, the loss would leave an insurmountable gap in funding for many projects, especially in low-income communities.
The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has developed a few strategies that CPRA members can use to show support of the CDBG. Here's what you can do:
- Sign on to this national support letter by the CDBG Coalition, of which NRPA is a member. NRPA is already a signatory on this letter.
2. Send a message to your members of Congress. The message is pre-written, and you can either hit send or edit first.
